Why do teeth darken?
Tooth enamel is designed to protect the teeth from the effects of chewing, trauma and acid attacks caused by sugar. Over time the white enamel is worn down, becoming thinner and more transparent, which allows the inner, darker core of the teeth to show through.
During routine chewing, tiny micro-cracks occur in the enamel. These cracks gradually fill with stains and debris from food and drink, and as a result the teeth eventually develop a dull appearance. Teeth whitening removes the stains, giving a whiter, brighter appearance.
What we offer
We have been providing teeth whitening at Willow Street Dental for many years. The method we use involves custom-made whitening trays:
- We take records of your teeth and send these away to have your whitening trays made.
- The trays are checked at the practice to make sure they fit correctly.
- At home, the trays are filled with the whitening agent and worn for a couple of hours a day, for a week or two depending on the degree of whitening wanted.
Cost
We currently offer home whitening privately, from £295. See our full fee guide, and please contact the practice to confirm current prices.
